Sunday, November 25, 2012 Good Prep Program for Students by Big Bud from PLUMAS LAKE CA USA Pros: The ability to do topic specific practice exams and the way the program explains right and wrong answers is very helpful Cons: Price. You can buy Sporty's Study Buddy iPad app for only $9. It does almost the exact thing. Review: If you have the and you have the asa, you have everything that is in the Gleim software. So why buy the software too?

Because it puts you into the test mode vs reading questions from a book and then answering them, and then checking the answers and then going back and focusing on what you're deficient in. It goes on and on. The Gleim looks almost exactly as the FAA test does.

This helps you get the feel of what you will be doing in the exam. It also allows you to study specific areas and do mini tests. You can then do practice exams that mimic the real thing.

I ended up doing several practice topic exams until I became proficient in that topic and then would move on. I then did about 10-12 full practice exams before I sat for the real thing and it help immensely. I ended up getting only 2 questions wrong. Which was my own fault because the questions that I got wrong I simply misread or accidentally clicked the wrong button. No need to rush. If you are prepared for the exam it will probably take you between 30-45 minutes and you have something like 2.5 hrs.

The one question I missed was in the software; it wasn't new to me.

But I answered the question correctly the first time around, while using the software, so it didn't show up again. And then, when I took the real test, I over-analyzed the question and answered it incorrectly, instead of answering it correctly as my initial instinct would have had me answer it.

Cons: Figures/illustrations are poor in quality Review: For anyone who wants to learn all of the material on a written exam, or those who just want to ensure they're knowledge is updated, this software is great.

It is particularly helpful for those who like to sit down at their computer and have it 'quiz' them. The flexibility of the quizzes is outstanding. Randomization, mimicking CATS, or standard FAA section order-it does it all. It is even possible to print them, for a standard sit-down test. (Sans computer.) The one area that really annoys me about this software, however, is that the charts utilized are of very poor quality.

When looking at graphs, for example, it is almost impossible to read any of the text, despite the ability to change the zoom level. (That only distorts the text more, adn causes the lines to be come jagged.) The digitization of the figures should have been done at a higher quality. The results when printing them are a bit better, but still not nearly as good as figures from other course prep.
